Editorial: The FLIR Scion Long Range Thermal Monocular solves a mid-life crisis we never knew we had

Staff Editorial - In some circles FLIR’s Scion Long Range Thermal Monocular falls into the basic needs’ category like food, water, and air. I simply cannot argue with this non fact-based generalization that I just made up, and that I do in fact find myself needing this long range thermal monocular. Even the name sounds nice despite its lengthy syllabic handicap. Say it with me, “All I want for Christmas is my FLIR Scion Long Range Thermal Monocular!” It just rolls off the tongue. True poetry in action.

Here is what has us enthusiastically geeking out over it. FLIR recently expanded the Scion Thermal Monocular Series with longer range detection. The new 25mm and 36mm lens options expand viewing capabilities up to 770 meters and 1,120 meters, respectively. Paired with FLIR’s high-performance Boson thermal core, users can observe objects at extreme distances with unparalleled clarity. Additionally, users can tailor their own viewing preferences using the new manual focus feature. How cool is that!? If you are like me and you enjoy walking into dark, sketchy places on a whim, or exploring the woods on moonless nights but want to see what may or may not screech across an expanse and latch onto your neck, then this beautiful tool is for you. We can say this, it is not a budget crusher like the diamond you had to get on Blue Nile to say “I’m sorry for loading the dishwasher incorrectly all those years it goes back to my childhood”, but you might have to put off getting that vintage Shasta camper trailer you saw on craigslist the other day – but that is just me.  Besides, you can never pay too much to protect yourself from vampires or the odd rabid possum. URS Electronics will implement the following steps for at least the next 2-week period (March 16-27) to minimize the spread of and exposure to the novel coronavirus COVID-19, while remaining operational:

• The office and front counter doors will be locked.

• Only URS staff will be allowed inside the building.

 
 
For URS customers with an approved A/R account:

• We will continue to accept orders by phone and email with billing to your account.

• Our plan is to continue using common carriers for all shipments.

• For emergency situations, will-call pick up can be arranged at our freight door in the back.

 
For the front counter customers:

• We will support your needs by taking order via phone & email with credit card payment.

• For items in stock, product will be shipped out immediately via UPS ground. 

• For backordered items, we will attempt to have your order shipped directly to you.  If that option is not available, the product will be shipped to URS and then will be shipped out immediately to your address.

 
URS Electronics anticipates challenges to the supply chain that could affect timely delivery of product.  We will strive to keep you updated on the status of your orders and work with fellow Genie Group Distributors around the USA to source critical components.
