Editorial: The FLIR Scion Long Range Thermal Monocular solves a mid-life crisis we never knew we had

Staff Editorial - In some circles FLIR’s Scion Long Range Thermal Monocular falls into the basic needs’ category like food, water, and air. I simply cannot argue with this non fact-based generalization that I just made up, and that I do in fact find myself needing this long range thermal monocular. Even the name sounds nice despite its lengthy syllabic handicap. Say it with me, “All I want for Christmas is my FLIR Scion Long Range Thermal Monocular!” It just rolls off the tongue. True poetry in action.

Here is what has us enthusiastically geeking out over it. FLIR recently expanded the Scion Thermal Monocular Series with longer range detection. The new 25mm and 36mm lens options expand viewing capabilities up to 770 meters and 1,120 meters, respectively. Paired with FLIR’s high-performance Boson thermal core, users can observe objects at extreme distances with unparalleled clarity. Additionally, users can tailor their own viewing preferences using the new manual focus feature. How cool is that!? If you are like me and you enjoy walking into dark, sketchy places on a whim, or exploring the woods on moonless nights but want to see what may or may not screech across an expanse and latch onto your neck, then this beautiful tool is for you. This is the kind of thing you would want in your toolbox even if there was no pandemic, social movement, major election, recession, and global climate change presenting constant existential challenges and stoking the fires of paranoia.

In the age of Covid-19, the PKW team developed the Germ-Fogger™ out of the need to decontaminate their own craft brewery and coffee bar. Leschorn, was brought in during the later design stages to help come up with a specific switch that would satisfy their team’s requirement for a motor-rated On/Off Switch. In addition, he worked up three power inlet options, with and without input line cord, and a J-Box (Value-Added option) before their team decided on an Inlet Only solution from Marinco.

Now ready for prime time, the website advances that the Germ Fogger™ is the state of art atomizing system that employs vortecular™ spray control for more consistent application of EPA approved disinfecting agents, and judging from this video, we cannot argue with that.
